Community Day: IAM a garden

Installation view of Monumental: Sculpture by Dr. Charles Smith

Discover together through all-ages activities as you explore the Museum, learn about the art on view, and make your own unique artwork.

Inspired by Dr. Charles Smith’s art environments and Henry Darger’s large-scale floral drawings, spend a day engaging with art that grows in unlikely places.

Activities include:

11:30 am-12:15 pm Garden Chat: Outdoor Art Environments with Joshua Willis

Learn about artists who transformed their homes and yards into living works of art. Coffee and light breakfast will be provided. Registration is encouraged.

11 am – 6 pm Make a flower using found objects in our Center for Learning and Engagement (CLEO), then plant it in the IAM art garden!

4 pm Slow Look: Healing Machines

Experience Emery Blagdon’s Healing Machine, built in his shed, through a 45-minute guided slow look of three large-scale mobiles from his original built environment.
