Our free field trips free up new thinking

Field Trips

IAM offers free educational tours and workshops to kindergarten through grade 12 school groups.

Led by a museum educator, students explore a selection of artworks through guided close looking and discussion. In the Learning Studio, students are encouraged to experiment with materials to create artwork inspired by the artists and themes explored in the Museum. Tours are available Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5 pm.

Guided Exhibition Tour

Our guided tours use an interactive approach to learning to provide social and cultural contexts for understanding art. IAM educators guide students in exploring a selection of artworks through close observation and thoughtful discussion, encouraging them to discover, question, reflect, and deepen their understanding of the artistic process.

Tours last approximately one hour and can be modified as necessary.

Slow Look

A Slow Look is a 30-minute guided experience where students spend time exploring a single work of art through close observation, discussion and reflection. Led by an IAM educator, students are encouraged to notice details, ask questions, share ideas and discover new perspectives. Together, they build curiosity, critical thinking and confidence by taking the time to look closely and learn from one another.

Slow Look + Studio

After the 30-minute Slow Look, students are encouraged to experiment with materials to create artwork inspired by the artist and themes explored in the conversation.

The Slow Look and workshop last approximately one and a half hours and can be modified as necessary.

Group Size

IAM can accommodate up to 30 people for a guided group visit. Teachers and chaperones are responsible for supervising groups. Student groups (K–12) must have one adult chaperone per every 10 students.
