“I was on hemodialysis for kidney disease when I reconnected with an old friend from a past life who asked about my treatments. I decided to make an illustrated envelope for her (now on the book cover) that told the story. When she received it through the US mail, her enthusiastic response made me realize I needed to make others. After drawing and sending her 450 more envelopes, made with ballpoint pen while on the dialysis machine and colored with prismacolor pencils the morning after, I realized maybe it was time to put some of them into a book.
