A 100-page soft cover book by Jose Refugio “Fugie” Almanza, featuring 21 artists, benefited the Joseph Jr. Paying it Forward Scholarship 2021
In this collection, the universe is mirrored in a handful of artists that share the experience of living in Chicago. The brushstrokes and colors on their palettes show us that they are not a homogeneous group, nor do they represent any sort of ism. The variety of styles and media is the reflection of several sentient beings. Through the years, each artist has explored and tuned their medium as a means of expression. All of them have an unfinished piece, but perhaps all of them have already achieved their magnum opus, the work of art that will churn our guts. What all these artists share in common is their generosity. They have been producing art individually for many years and now have come to this space to collaborate. They have donated their artwork for a noble, most human cause: to fundraise for some of the most vulnerable students in Pilsen. — Franky Piña
