CHICAGO (May 22, 2025) — A museum that for decades has focused on outsider and self-taught art in West Town will reopen Friday after an extensive overhaul of its galleries and other public spaces.
Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, 756 N. Milwaukee Ave., is now simply Intuit Art Museum following a rebrand and $10 million renovation.
The project, years in the making, got a significant boost in 2022 when the museum was awarded a $5 million Chicago Recovery Grant. An additional $5 million was raised privately.
Intuit held a grand reopening Thursday, during which museum leaders and city officials unveiled new galleries, a revamp of its Henry Darger room, a dedicated education and community room and an updated gift shop. An accessible front entrance and new facade with large windows has also been added.
About Intuit
Intuit champions the diverse voices of self-taught art, welcoming both new and familiar audiences. Intuit presents the work of self-taught artists—also known as outsider art. These artists typically work outside the mainstream and may have faced societal, economic or geographic barriers to a traditional path of art making. By presenting a diversity of artistic voices, Intuit builds a bridge from art to audiences.
