Panel Discussion

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art will host a panel discussion on Vernacular Photography in Focus Saturday March 18th at 1:00 pm at Intuit, 756 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago. Admission is free and open to the public.

Intuit presents this panel in conjunction with the exhibition Accidental Mysteries: Extraordinary Vernacular Photographs from the Collection of John and Teenuh Foster. The exhibition features over 65 photographs taken by anonymous, amateur photographers. The panel, moderated by Accidental Mysteries curator John Foster, will discuss the increasing interest in vernacular and found photography in academia, art, and collecting. Panelists include Rod Slemmons and David Syrek. Audience members are invited to participate in the conversation as well.

Rod Slemmons is currently the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Columbia College Chicago. Since 1975 he has worked as a museum curator and teacher of photography and the history of photography with a special interest in the vernacular. David Syrek is art director at the Chicago Tribune and a noted Chicago collector and curator. John Foster is a founder and past-president of ENVISION Folk Art of Missouri, where he also served as editor of the Journal that he produced for ten years. He is a member of the Advisory Board of The Folk Art Society of America and the Nek Chand Foundation in London.
