About our outreach
Exposing students and community groups to outsider art can be an introduction to a new way of thinking about creative expression. In learning about the unique aesthetics and life experiences of outsider artists, students and groups discover that art can be the product of their own personal vision, and that their artistic abilities and imaginations are not limited by a lack of formal academic training, privilege, or access to professional materials.

Also, outsider art can be a catalyst for critical discussion about the marginalization and social hierarchies drawn along lines of race, class, and gender. Students and community groups are given the opportunity to explore the subjugated knowledge and often overlooked or underrepresented art and histories of marginalized groups, and begin to see how art can be a form of empowerment and a way to have a voice.

Intuit welcomes all groups to come and learn about outsider art. We encourage you to contact us and schedule a tour of a current exhibition, a video screening, or a presentation about outsider art for your school or community group.
