dan robbins: inventor of paint by numbers Dan Robbins, inventor of paint by numbers, the ubiquitous example of American hobby art, will join us to give a rare, humorous, and personal account of what it took to make anyone an artist. With a slide presentation featuring the very first paint-by-numbers prototypes – mock Cézanne still-lifes and Picasso-esque nudes -- Robbins will discuss how he came up with the idea for do-it-yourself instructional painting and how quickly the phenomenon spread across the nation and he became America’s most prolific painter. The artist will share with the audience specific details about the development, packaging, marketing, and promotions of Paint-By-Numbers kits, such as the mixing of very specific colors of paint and drying techniques, Dan Robbins is also the author of Whatever Happened to Paint-By-Numbers?, an autobiography. Robbins will sign copies of the book that will be available for purchase in the Intuit Store. |
