Fred Scruton lectures on photographing folk art and outsider environments

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art will present a slideshow and lecture by Fred Scruton, “Get Rid Of That Pain In The Neck!” Photographing Folk Art and Outsider Environments within the Fine Art Tradition. Thursday March 23rd at 6:00 pm at Intuit, 756 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago. Admission is free and open to the public.

Fred Scruton has a rare talent for finding and photographing exceptional examples of the self-taught and vernacular landscape. A well known photographer of contemporary artwork and installation during the 80's and 90's in New York City, he has since concentrated on documenting the work of self-taught artists and sign painters. Working with an 8 x 10 inch view camera, he has traveled extensively east of the Mississippi and has had numerous one-person exhibitions since 1999. Fred teaches photography at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and continues to photograph both “found” and well-documented sites. www.fredscruton.com archives many of these enthralling images.
