STICKS Workshop

Saturday, February 14, 11am – 3pm

In conjunction with the exhibition, STICKS, two hands-on workshop will be presented at Intuit. There will be two stations: Toothpick Sculptures and Articulated Sticks.
Toothpick Sculptures

Learn how to transform sticks of all shapes and sizes into extraordinary works of art. Chicago artist, Wayne Kusy, who is featured in STICKS, will show participants how to create a sculpture using only toothpicks. Kusy creates models of early 20th century ocean liners out of toothpicks, from small to large scale replicas measuring up to 25 feet and include hundreds of thousands of toothpicks.
Articulated Sticks
This hands-on workshop with art educator, Jerry Stefl, will venture into transforming sticks into imaginative works of art. See what emerges from your creative endeavors after pegging, gluing, drilling, and sawing in just the right places. Jerry Stefl is an Associate Professor in the Art Education Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education,
exhibition, collecting and publishing.  Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world,
and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.
