Mr. Imagination Benefit
On Sunday, January 20, 2008, Chicago native Gregory Warmack (Mr. Imagination / Mr. I) received a phone call from a neighbor at 3:30 a.m. alerting him that his home- or ''creativity grotto''- was in flames. Destroying the majority of his house and collection, firefighters battled the blaze until 2 p.m. Although he relocated to Bethlehem, PA in 2001, Mr. I’s influence and artistry can still be seen throughout Chicago including his grotto at the Elliot Donnelly Youth Center, the Chicago Children's Museum Park bench and in the Howlin’ Wolf Bar Area of the House of Blues. The success of this event is a testament that his presence is still felt in the hearts and minds of his friends who remain here in Chicago. With the benefit generating over $12,000, Intuit is proud to have been able to offer assistance to Mr. Imagination in his time of need. Intuit would also like to thank everyone involved in making this event a success, including those who donated auction items, attendees of the event, our refreshment sponsors and diligent volunteers. Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education, exhibition, collecting and publishing. Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world, and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision.
