Cost: $150 / $125 Intuit members

First Stop

Lunch, 12-2:30 PM CST

THREE AT TRYON FARM: A UNIQUE CONSERVATION COMMUNITY
It’s been likened to Little House on the Prairie and Walden Pond, and it’s located only an hour’s drive east of Chicago in Michigan City, Indiana. Developer and architect Ed Noonan and his wife, Eve, will serve you lunch and show you Tryon Farm, a planned green community that encompasses a prairie, farmland, ponds, dunes and woods within its 170 acres.

THE EARTH ABOVE. Karl and Kathy Dennis invite you to explore their earth bermed home on a reestablished wetland pond. This sunny house by Chicago Associates Planners and Architects (CAPA) has great views and light. Don’t miss their collection of indigenous art including Native American, Maori and African art. The house is to be featured in the September 2008 edition of LAKE magazine.

A STUDY IN CONTRASTS. Nestled in the Dunes, up against the small meadow is Laurel Rundle's home.  Laurel has played with her CAPA space differently, including a unique indoor-outdoor area upstairs.  Her approach, done in collaboration with Thomas Wesely of Thomas Wesely Design is contemporary yet restful. Check out the spa-like bathroom suite!

RECYCLED. REUSED. A short walk away, visit the dune house of architect-owners Gary Beyerl and Dawn Heid that features a creative use of recycled materials including old-fashioned painter scaffolding and discarded onyx  pieces as the bathroom backsplash .Dawn Heid’s own paintings are just right in this contemporary space. Their Chicago home was featured in The Chicago Tribune Magazine section in 2003 and in Trends Remodeling Magazine, Winter, 2004.

Second Stop
Cool drinks, 4:00-5:30 PM EST

BRIDGMAN WOODLAND RETREAT
When Marjorie and Harvey Freed decided to build a summer getaway, they chose architect James Nagle to come up with a design that was “anti-McMansion contemporary with a bit of a vintage feel.”  Filled with outsider artists William Dawson, Jimmie Lee Suddeth, Jake McCord, Mose Tolliver and more, you’ll enjoy Michigan woodland views and a cold drink from the large decks. You may even see a hummingbird.

Third Stop

Cookout, 5-PM EST

GRAND BEACH BLAST
Mixing outsiders like Ras Dizzy and Jimmie Lee Sudduth with Michigan insiders like Edward Avila and Bruce Wood is just part of the fun at Judith and Patrick Blackburn's Annual Labor Day Barbeque at their Grand Beach, MI home. Throw some bean bags in a game of Cornhole/Corn Toss, dance to live rock ‘n roll, relax by the fire pit chatting with friends or stroll down to the beach for a sunset to remember. Includes dinner and drinks.

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education,
exhibition, collecting and publishing.  Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world,
and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.
