Developing Visual Narratives Using Appropriated Images Workshop, Saturday March 8, 2008, 1:00–4:00pm Intuit will host a hands-on workshop with artist John Parot that focuses on the techniques used by Henry Darger. Darger’s practice involved tracing images from his collection of storybooks, magazines, and other publications, which were then transferred into his scroll-like watercolor paintings. Darger also used collage to create the illustrated narratives connected to his epic novel In the Realms of the Unreal. After viewing the Darger exhibition and the Henry Darger Room Collection at Intuit, participants will create and design their own sequential visual narrative. All supplies will be provided. |

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education, exhibition, collecting and publishing. Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world, and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art. |
