Music and Sound Poetry with Jaap Blonk
December 10, 2005

Jaap Blonk

Press release:
Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art will present composer and vocal artist Jaap Blonk in a solo performance on Saturday December 10th at 8:00 pm at Intuit, 756 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago IL. Admission will be $5.

Hailing from the Netherlands, Jaap Blonk is a specialist in the art of sound poetry, a hybrid of music, language and sound. Blonk performs sound poetry in the spirit of the Dada sound poets Hugo Ball and Kurt Schwitters. A self-taught composer and improviser whose main instrument is his voice, Blonk has performed his exuberant and extreme vocal gymnastics worldwide as a soloist and in a variety of collaborations.

Well-known in the field of contemporary and improvised music, he has collaborated with Paul Lytton, Mats Gustafsson, Michael Zerang, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Melvyn Poore, Paul Dutton, Nicolas Collins, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Ebony Band. He will soon be performing with Chicago musical luminary Ken Vandermark. Blonk is also the founder and leader of Splinks, a 15-piece orchestra, and BRAAXTAAL, an avant-rock trio. Visit his website www.jaapblonk.com for more information.

Join us for this rare opportunity to experience music in the intimate environment of Intuit.

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education,
exhibition, collecting and publishing.  Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world,
and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.
